Many digital cameras are capable of photographing the UV and IR light spectrum. To do so effectively, UV pass and IR pass filters are needed, which block out all other unwanted light frequencies. For UV, an 18A filter is used, and for IR, and 87A is used. These designations are from the Kodak Wratten filter series numbers, and are commonly referred to by many filter makers as a frame of reference, even though they may place their own designation number on the filter.
