A tight shot of red maple leaves, showing off their bright coloring.
This was on the Iowa State Univ. campus.

Taking a winding road through Minnesota during the fall, I came across this
abandoned metal structure, situated in the middle of a field.

little bit of early fall coloring in McBride state park. This is
looking upstream on the Cedar River, which is very, very dry here!

September 2001 Part
of my summer self-assignment in photography was to discover and capture on
film old buildings, store fronts, barns and outdoor structures.
September's makes for an interesting desktop wallpaper.

old stone pedestrian brige. Located in Ledges State Park, the
light was finally right, after many tries, to photograph this stone walkway
bridge over a stream,

July 2001 A Small
Iowa Town Celebration I thought the similarities of the red,
white and blue U.S. flag and the red building with white trim set against a
clear blue sky was striking, along with the stripes blowing in the wind,
which was at about the same angle as the white steps.

July 2001 Bonus
Chinese JS8419 Steam Locomotive in Iowa The Boone & Scenic Valley Railway
purchased a steam locomotive from China. For this shot, I was about
1000 feet away (as close as I could get at the time), and used the Sony
MVC-CD1000.
Follow this link to find out more about the steam locomotive.

June 2001 Iowa
Arboretum A very popular place to visit in central Iowa - its quiet, far
enough away from cities, and beautiful. There are many species of
trees represented, and flowering plants, also. The June wallpaper is
in JPG high-quality format, but at a resolution of 1024x768. If I
don't get too much negative feedback, I'll continue with the JPG format, but
in the 1024x768 resolution, instead of 800x600. If you want to use it
as wallpaper, you'll either need to switch on Windows Active Desktop, or
simply resave the JPG as a BMP file.
Comments and suggestions are welcome about this change.

May 2001 Iowa
Sunset This sunset was taken about 1973 in an area that was heavily
populated with trees at that time (it has since become a housing
development). Photographed on Ektachrome 160 Daylight, I underexposed
by two f-stops, which in slide film increases the density of the emulsion,
which has the effect of saturating the colors and can bring out a deep,
'thick looking', color-rich image. The emulsion layers in the slide
actually do become thicker when underexposed. This results from a
build up of silver-halide crystals when developed.

made for an interesting composition and twist of perspective reasoning.

January 2001 Snow
Streams Finally, a snow picture! Taken only a few weeks ago with
a light dusting of snow. Right now, there is so much snow on the
ground, it looks like the ice age has arrived.
