ColorMechanic from Digital Light and Color - "is a selective color correction plug-in for Adobe Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. PowerRetouche has a great set of plugins that will "improve retouching photos and manipulating light and colour. Freely apply the filtering to any level of lights, midtones or shadows. Amphisoft Filters from Ilya Razmanov consists of both free and shareware filters for accurate image enchancement and wild special effects.

buZZ.Professional, from Segmentis  - buZZ.Professional 1.0 and buZZ.Lite 1.0 are Mac and Window compliant image editor plug-ins and both contain a unique 'Simplifier' effect. The 'Simplifier' removes unwanted detail from an image without loss of focus, colour, and edges, thus retaining the all-important features. Once a simplified foundation layer is produced, a range of other effects may be added-in to produce quite stunning and original pictures....this is the new stuff!!  Download the demo.

SilverFast Plugin is a professional level scanner software that maximizes the capabilities of color flatbed, film and drum scanners.

Test Strip from Vivid Details is a great help to anyone wishing to get that perfect color balance with a photograph in Photoshop.  If you've ever used a photo darkroom, you already know what a test trip does.  If not, visit the Vivid Details web site to find out, and download the demo.

If you use the Image Processing Tool Kit, Intensity Profile is now available for the PC, and Autocontrast for both platforms expands contrast over the full range of the image (great for images with shading, or TEM sections with varying thickness), and there is a spreadsheet with examples for data analysis (statistics, graphs, and sphere unfolding).

Wasabi Software has Skypaint - Download a demo - "SkyPaint is the first 3D panorama painting tool. Vertigo has Vertigo 3D HotText!!!, a plugin which lets you place 3D text along customized 3D paths, add textures, interactively position lights and use the virtual camera to capture the right shot right inside Photoshop. 

Export/Import Plugins and Image Compression

Auto F/X has WebVise Totality that has a very good JPG and GIF compression plugin.  Tryout out their demo.

PCDIP - a PhotoCD Index Print plugin for Photoshop - limited demo - On every Photo CD is a file - /PHOTO_CD/OVERVIEW.PCD - that contains the thumbnail images for all the images on the the CD. Photo CD viewers  use this file to display the thumbnails. PCDIP is an acquire plugin for Photoshop that combines the thumbnails into a single image that can then be printed (or saved) from Photoshop as an index print (contact sheet). The thumbnail size is 192x128 pixels, and all the pixels are present in the final image.

ImageVice 1.1 for Windows released  has a fully functional and non-expiring demo that will work with *any* image, it can help shrink your GIF, PNG, PICT, and BMP files.

Version 2.0 of VIMAS JPEG plug-in is implemented as Photoshop Export plug-in.  "VIMAS JPEG Plug-in for Adobe Photoshop allows Adobe Photoshop users to compress images as JPEGs at compression levels superior to those generated by standard JPEG compression generators."   Download a demo.Also, take a look at VIMAS Web Imaging (http://www.vimas.com/ve_vwi.htm) that has a lot of useful image processing features.

Altamira Group is currently making an FIF plugin for image compression.The first FIF plugin I've seen, it has a very clean and attractive interface, very easy to use and is fast.

Cinematte is Digital Dominion's high end Photoshop plug-in for blue and green screen compositing techniques in Windows 95 or NT. Go to their site for more information on this great plugin.

Pegasus Imaging Corp - the BETTER JPEG people! Lots of stuff for the JPEG minded. A Photoshop Plug-In demo is available for downloading.

Get a Demo copy of HVS Color, a color-conversion plug-in for Photoshop that offers 24-bit quality even at low bit depths and improves GIF file compression, reduces images from 24 to 8 bits with no visible loss in image quality, and produces smaller GIF files because it doesn't use dithering. PNP Home Page for Portable Network Photograph, based on wavelets is an open standard replacement for JPG format

FIF format stands for Fractal Image Format and is based on the same mathematics that fractals are - repeating patterns resulting in redundant similar information. FIF format can achieve a high degree of compression while retaining high image quality.

Altamira Group is currently making an FIF plugin for image compression. The first FIF plugin I've seen, it has a very clean and attractive interface, very easy to use and is fast.

Adobe's Bravo is being proposed and the next graphics standard for the Web. Being provided as an API, enabling true color, transparency, scalable line art and usability of various font types.

Digital Frontiers HVS Human Visual System is based on our eyes ability to perceive and match color. The human eye is more sensitive to lightness or blackness (called luma) than color (called chroma) itself. HVS separates color in terms of it's luma and chroma and creates an image in color space that more closely matches the way we perceive color. The resulting color space is optimized for how we perceive luma, chroma, intensity and masking.

Imaging for the Internet, known as I4I, has a goal of enabling viewing and printing of high quality photographs from the Web. It involves a new format called FlashPix,the PsiFi Internet Imaging Protocol web format and software modules. Together, they plan to provide interactive image performance and quality web documents along with a common interchange format. This will provide multi-resolution, linkable and extendable storage, standardized color space, alpha-channel support and offer viewing parameters for preferred ways in which to view the image.

Digital Frontiers has announced price cuts for HVS Toolkit Pro 2 (which replaces HVS WebFocus Toolkit). The new HVS Toolkit Pro includes HVS ColorGIF 2, HVS JPEG 2 and HVS Animator Pro. Download their demos of each.

ULead has demos of  Web Razor 1.0, FX Razor 1.0, Smart Saver 3.0, ArtTexture Plugin 1.0, FantasyWarp Plugin 1.0, Type Plugin 1.0, Particle Plugin 1.0 and Web Plugins 1.0. Be sure to try them out.

Blade Pro & Solar Cell from Flaming Pear

BladePro, the Photoshop filter that combines textures with bevels and mirrorlike reflections, is now available for Windows.   This is quite a cool plugin, and worth checking out.  BladePro for Windows requires Photoshop 4.0 or an equivalent.

Solar Cell from Flaming Pear creates fantastic surreal suns. From modest white dwarfs to red supergiants, you design your own stellar phenomena. You control the coronal flares, diffraction spikes, sun-surface detail, halo and rainbow effects. Creating Image FX

ProMagic Digital Graphic Solutions has three trial downloads of plugins: Magic Interlacer Lite to create lenticular images; USM Pro for sharpening images; and Analglyph which produces 3D images from a layered Photoshop file.

PhotoEffex has created several Photoshop-compatible filters for the creative individual.  Demos - Volumetric Light, Infrared and Denoiser are available, and free filters Background Blur and Scan Lines are available for downloading.

Future Fantastic announces the release of the Genesis V2 PRO, a high-end special effects Photoshop plugin for print, video and the Web.  You can download a demo version of this great plugin.

Sandwater Plugin FX has many photoshop filters for demo downloading.  Very nice FX..

Page Curl and Puzzle Pro from AV Bros. Page Curl is the most powerful plugin I've seen so far.  You can vary all the parameters of the curl - radius, depth, length,etc, plus you can specify what image you want on the backside!  Puzzle Pro is everyone's answer to needing a puzzle making plugin.  You can adjust the size of the pieces, the number of them in your image, and the depth of the cut between the pieces.  The bevel, opacity and blur can be adjusted also.  Easy to use slider controls for everything.  This is a very realistic plugin that makes quality FX to your images.  Perhaps the most important feature of Puzzle Pro is ability to save cells in Photoshop PSD format, in separate layers.   See my FYI section on Puzzle Pro.  Also, visit their site, check out the Puzzle Pro samples they have, and download a demo of both plugins.

Satori has come out with Satori PaintFX, a New 64-bit Vector Paint, 2D Graphics & Digital Imaging that works fast at any resolution and is the world's first real-time *64-bit Vector Paint, Effects and Filter plug-in suite.

DeepPaint from Right Hemisphere has just released the DeepPaint plugin. "Deep Paint is a 2-D paint system that offers dynamic 3D lighting and texture control, for the most realistic and stunning effects you've ever seen. You can easily convert existing photos or illustrations into virtually any medium: thickly-textured oils, bold acrylics, delicate watercolors, pearlescent pastels, and much more. Puffin Designs have created a new Lens Flare Pro plugin for Photoshop (Mac only so far, but a PC version is in the near future).  Check out the FX at their website.

Imagedrome has a free Bevel Plugin called Imazine the Tools-Bevel SE, part of a suite of plugins available from them.  Looks great.

Cytopia Software Incorporated has PhotoOptics Digital-Optical Filters, which are time tested photographic gel and lens filter effects. PhotoOptics reproduces traditional gel and lens filter effects with extreme accuracy. True color negative inversal for Adobe Photoshop. Create accurate sepia tones, perform subtle color corrections and dramatic colorizations. Simulate film grain. Add noise to the luminance channel.

Genesis is a high-end special effects plugin that will run under Adobe Photoshop. Here's a short list of all the effects this plugin can produce: Lens Flares, Heat Distortions, Glows, Lighting. Genesis is shipped with over 100 demonstration effects that will probably satisfy every need that you'll ever have … and many more will be downloadable in the future.

DigiEffects has a plugin called AgedFilm and "will take any video sequence, movie or still image and electronically "ages" it! You can add scratches, hair, dust, graininess, luminance flicker, and tint with any color. You have over 19 parameters, all of them animatable. The results are very realistic, unlike other products that have tried to create this effect." Create old-movie look in Premiere, Photoshop and DeBabelizer Pro Windows.

Andromeda Software, Inc. plug-in filters for Photoshop

Alien Skin Software Home of Eye Candy 3.0 which has 21 filters for the PC version. GIF Animators

Digital Frontiers has HVS Animator Pro for excellent compression in creating or editing GIF animations. Also, they have HVS ColorGIF and HVS JPEG for excellent compression of images.  They have versions for both Mac and Windows and full-featured trialware downloads are available from their website.
